Want a holiday with clear mountain air, blue skies, peace and quiet, wonderful scenery, warm (not hot) temperatures and exercise, great food and space to dream?
Turracher Höhe is a small, pretty Austrian village next to a beautiful lake, surrounded by high mountains with views as far as the Italian Alps. It is a mix of luxury hotels, fine restaurants, mountain cafes, a toboggan ride on rails (Nockyflitzer), gem museum, bakery, church, shops and beautiful walks and bike routes.
About Turracher Höhe
High on the Styrian/Carinthian border, the village is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, runners and for car and bike touring. At this altitude the summer temperatures range between 20 and 30 degrees maximum, but a short trip into the valleys sees that rise into the high 30’s at the height of summer.
The village has a number of attractions to visit and experience starting with three beautiful lakes, high mountain walks and the adjacent national park and biosphere. Around the main lake in the centre of the village are three luxury hotels with spas which you can book to use. The village also has numerous lakeside bars and cafes and restaurants, shops, a bakery and food vending machines.
The village has a Gem Museum displaying and selling spectacular gems and crystals. The mountains which circle the village are accessible by chair lift or gondola and the exciting Nockyflitzer toboggan runs throughout the year. The mountain huts also serve delicious Austrian dishes and drinks to replenish you on your high altitude walks. Mountain bikers have special lifts to take them up to the start of their twisting bike routes down the mountain sides.
From the village it is only 3.5 hours drive to Venice, Vienna or Munich and only 2 hours to Salzburg and Klagenfurt, making this an ideal base for a few nights away in a beautiful city. For Formula 1 fans the Red Bull Ring is only about an hour’s drive away.
